He left on a two-year-long motorcycle trip from Minnesota to the southern tip of South America…where the road ends.
While down in Chile and Argentina he got hooked on Yerba Mate tea, a highly caffeinated loose leaf drunk through a bombilla straw in the manner of the original Argentinean gaucho cowboys when they were working the range.
There is always the fear that this isn’t going to work. The original goal was 10k on the kickstart, and needless to say they blew past that number with around 400,000 dollars in pre-order sales in the first 30days.
It was designed for taking on adventures, but users have also adopted the JoGo for everyday use as a way to avoid coffee waste, the brewing convenience it allows, or they appreciate the rich flavors this method of drinking coffee allows.
Coffee influencers on social media have had a widely positive response and helped push the marketing of the product.
The JoGo straw offers a very added waste option for brewing. All you need are the grounds (which could be composted) and hot water.*
*Waste is created during the production of roasted coffees and in the supply chain. Hence, the term added waste.
5% of JoGo’s profits annually go to Survival International. They work with tribal and Indigenous groups around the world, in particular, with the Guaraní tribe in Latin America, original inventors of the bombilla straw made from the Taquara plant.
