A polaroid of our coffee every morning for the entirety of 2023. Coming soon.

S10: PREVIEW

I thought about sending this a few days ago, but as I watched my own inbox fill up with happy holidays emails and pitches to buy and subscribe and well wishes that felt, frankly, insincere (not all, but many), I thought, Well, shit. Let’s give everyone a break for a few days.

I’m constantly battling email fatigue. I don’t want that for you. It is one of the things R!WC is modifying for 2024. We get so excited about all this coffee stuff that it is hard not to share it ASAP, but we’re evolving. Here is what we have planned for 2024:

A close up of three soup bowls filled with coffee during a coffee cupping. The white bowls have colorful downward strips indicating flavor notes.
So many coffees. So little time.
  • One newsletter per week. We want you to be excited about getting an e-mail from us. Those e-mails will be packed to the gills with content, and we’ll be publishing even more in the Bean Journal.

  • The Coffee People podcast will continue as it always has. The pod will feature interviews with interesting people associated with coffee, including roasters, baristas, cafe owners, farmers, artists, scientists, creators, green coffee importers, equipment manufacturers, and more.

  • We’ll sprinkle in some Coffee With podcasts. Our interview with heart transplant recipient Matt Hankes was our most listened-to podcast last year. We’ll connect with more humans who have a special story to tell over a cup of coffee in 2024.

  • In 2023, we revamped the Coffee Smarter podcast to focus on helping people brew a better cup of coffee at home and to improve that home coffee experience. We’ll continue to do that, but we heard you when we stopped sharing some of the industry-specific information that you—the aspiring coffee pros, future cafe owners, and burgeoning roasters—were looking for.

A three-part collage: from Right: A selfie of a bearded caucasian man wearing a dark cap and headphones. A mic blocks part of the foreground. Center: The same man in the same cap and beard flashes shakas at the camera in front of a sign for Roast! West Coast. Right: An accidental photo from below of the same man in a podcasting booth. The focus is on the bottom of a white coffee mug.
So much time was spent in the closet. I was lucky to get out to visit you all once in awhile. More IRL adventures in 2024.

In 2024, we’ve got you covered with Coffee Smarter Pro. You’ll find an entirely new show featuring coffee pros breaking down industry-specific challenges. We’ll cover green coffee, coffee shop start-ups, dialing espressos, roaster maintenance, and more. Plus, we’ll carve up the archives. We’ll be collecting the best advice from the past three years of guests to include, just in case you missed it.

  • We’re expanding our features with new photography, more Baristas Who Rule the World, and sharing the art of coffee packaging.

And that is just what we have planned. I’m sure more will come along as we go. We hope to see you out in the world. Perhaps we can share a cup of coffee out there.

A bearded, masked (n95) man wearing a ball cap looks at the camera while standing next to a sign inviting you to share a cup of coffee with him and a picture of him with out the mask at a convention center booth. Black and white photo.
We partnered with Roastar to meet new coffee friends at the SCA Expo in Portland. (April 2023)
