S10: Interlude
Guest: Ryan Woldt
Role: Creator, Producer, Voice of R!WC
Based: Carlsbad, CA
What they order: Black coffee (batch-brewed or drip) + Single Shot of espresso…if I’m feeling saucy.
What I’m drinking at home: Today I’m drinking a Bridge City Coffee. This one was grown on the Rungeto lot 1328 in Kirinyaga County, Kenya. It was sent to me by Head Roaster Brandon Seabrooke Nelson who will be next week’s guest on Coffee People.
Two emails in one week? Many apologies. My goal for 2024 was to keep it simple with a single foray into your world electronically per week, but I’ve hit a snag. I have way too much content and way too many things I want to share. I’m a bit overwhelmed with all the positivity surrounding this coffee effort.
After 10 seasons, we have a backlog of guests asking to join our podcast and a growing stable of Industry Partners. Shout out to Roastar, Hacea Coffee Source, and Crossings Coffee for taking on our presenting sponsorships. They’ve enabled R!WC to keep growing.
This newsletter accompanies the podcast, err, I should say three podcasts that now fall under the Roast! West Coast banner: Coffee People, Coffee Smarter, and Coffee Smarter Pro. It also offers up the Bean Journal for miscellaneous coffee musings—which I admit is often (unfortunately) shunted off to the side.
The Roast! West Coast mission is to uplift the community of craft coffee and draw attention to the stories of the humans behind this drink we share a passion for. I’m going to keep asking the questions, and keep encouraging you to ask the questions. I’m going to keep letting our guests share their origin stories, motivations, and hopes for their (and our) coffee futures.
Which brings us back to my conundrum of having too much content. As we catch up, you might see extra podcasts dropped out in the world (via Spotify or Apple, etc), and you’ll see more content here on The Bean Journal, but I won’t be sending out an email for every single new piece of content. The Bean Journal will function more like a website with regularly updated content you’ll see when you visit R!WC Online.
As we work towards a more streamlined future on the backend of R!WC, we could use your help. Please answer the poll questions below, and if you have comments on where R!WC’s content future should go, send an email to: roastwestcoast@gmail.com.

WHAT WE ARE LISTENING TO WITH OUR COFFEE
I’ve fallen into a deep dive of French indie bands lately. Hybrid French-American-Swiss band Moriarty has made its way onto my coffee listening playlist more than a few times.
