Erin Nenow’s goal is to spread caffeine and smiles. As Co-Owner and day-to-day operator of Old California Coffee House & Eatery in San Marcos and Founder and Head Roaster of her new endeavor, Ascend Roasters, she’s setting herself up for success on that front.
She’s taking it a step further with the new youtube channel she started to help people learn more about making coffee at home. She’s starting the channel with coffee basics so someone just getting started in coffee can follow along growing in their coffee expertise along with the channel.
For me, this interview really showcased how entrepreneurs can continue to grow. To paraphrase Erin, “Whatever is in front of you, give it your best effort. You’ll be happy with where life takes you.”
I’ve been trying to apply the motto to my own entrepreneurial efforts, and Erin has been doing so ever since she got started at Old Cal Coffee. First by expanding her own coffee skills, then by taking on management challenges, then ownership, and now launching her own brand, Ascend Roasters, with lofty ambitions.
Since we spoke a few weeks ago, she’s continued to push for growth by launching subscription offerings so you can be sure you’ll never run out of coffee at home.
FROM THE SHOW
Australians claim the flat white as the coffee drink they exported to the world. This upsets New Zealanders who claim the same. The flat white consists of either a single or double shot of espresso, topped with steamed milk, and a fine layer of velvety, micro-foam. Sometimes the micro-foam is dolloped, leaving a white dot in the center of the coffee.
