First Light Whiskey has won a bunch of SIP Awards. What are they?
The SIP Awards stands apart as the only internationally recognized consumer judging spirits competition. Basically, it’s the Nickelodeon Kid’s Choice Awards for booze. Consumers are the judges, but not all consumers can be judges. There is a curated group of about 300 consumer judges (it changes annually) who are not affiliated in any way with the spirits industry. They are sent sampler kits to try (see video below) and then return their judging forms.
The awards are a bit confusing. Instead of the standard bronze, silver, and gold, competitors can place in bronze, silver, gold, double-gold, platinum, and platinum-best-in-class. In 2021, First Light Coffee Whiskey won a Platinum Award, and their Dark Roast blend won Double-Gold. Basically, they place two whiskeys in the very top spots in their category.
