A HOLIDAY PSA
The next Yeah, No…Yeah Coffee roast date is Tuesday, November 18th. If you order in time, your coffee should arrive before the long holiday weekend!
Hi. I'm Ryan Woldt. Host of the Coffee People and Coffee Smarter Podcasts and co-collaborator of the Yeah, No…Yeah Coffee with Relative Coffee Co.
I want to talk to you about a real problem that afflicts so many this time of year. Not having enough good coffee on Thanksgiving morning.
I get it. It's the first night back—Thanksgiving Eve. You've had an ol' fashioned (or two). Maybe you followed it up with a Spotted Cow. You told everyone you'd be back by 10, but it is definitely after bar close when you curl up on the hide-a-bed in the rec room at Aunt Linda and Uncle Dan's.
Now it's 6:13 AM, and your nieces, nephews and maybe cousins, a few you probably don't even know, are already running some sort of Ninja Warrior clinic on the wood floor above you. You already have a sinking feeling in your stomach because you know that as soon as you show your face upstairs, Uncle Garreth, Uncle Bill, or whoever will try to corner you to discuss their feelings on the election, whether you like it or not.
"After coffee, Uncle G," you say, "after coffee." Only to discover that all that is left in the kitchen are the remains of a pot of stovetop instant, not even enough for a full mug. "We did let you sleep in," chides Aunt Linda. You start to collapse in on yourself, and the fuzziness behind your eyes that you had hoped to avoid has begun in earnest.
No coffee? Someone asks. Defeat in their voice.
This is when you're wondering if you'll make it out of the holiday intact. This is the moment you start Google-mapping coffee shops, and Ricky, the cousin with the too-big tires and inappropriate stickers on the F150, offers a ride to the gas station because he needs a tall-boy energy drink. You're halfway to the driveway before you remember.
You did all of this last year.
And this year, you came prepared. The you of last week woke up one morning and ordered a couple of bags of Yeah, No…Yeah Coffee from Relative Coffee Co. That you—the better you—packed a bag or two of Yeah, No…Yeah Coffee, a blend of Colombia and Ethiopia beans that tastes great as a pourover or an Aeropress or in an electric brewer.
That version of you walks back into the kitchen a hero because when you were deciding between which holiday sweaters to pack, you asked yourself, Should I bring some coffee?
And the answer was Yeah, no…yeah. You might even get to sit at the big table this year.
YEAH, NO…YEAH UPDATE 1: NOVEMBER 17, 2024
It has been two weeks since the official launch of our collab with Bryant at Relative Coffee Co in Minneapolis. And…so far, so good!
We’ve gotten some industry attention with mentions on BevNet, Daily Coffee News, and Perfect Daily Grind. Roastar* interviewed us for a case study on our packaging. We did an interview with North County Pipline (below), and even sold a few bags of coffee. I see you Nate!
I’ve been really delving deeper into experimenting with the coffee. I knew I enjoyed it from the initial samplings, but now that I’ve had some time to play. It has been revelatory to explore the versatility of this coffee. Bryant is a really good roaster!
Ways I’ve brewed Yeah, No…Yeah, so far (in order of preference):
Aeropress + Prisma Attachement: 20g coffee > 50g Water
Aeropress: The Tim Wendelboe Method on Aeromatic
ABID Clever Dripper: 27.5g coffee > 400g water. Bloom & Steep 3m. Release 1m15s.
V60: 20g coffee > 300g water (15:1)
French Press: Varies
Kalita Wave (I just can’t get it right. I think it is me.): 15g coffee > 225g water
It’s been an adventure. Thank you for supporting Bryant and I’s collab. It is the first coffee collaboration roast for us both, and we’re hoping not the last!
*Roastar donated the packaging for Yeah, No…Yeah Coffee, and it just crushes. After you finish the coffee, it wouldn’t be inappropriate to put the bag in a frame.
